22:1 “If a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it, he must pay back five head of cattle for the ox and four sheep for the sheep.
22:2 “If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed;
22:3 but if it happens after sunrise, he is guilty of bloodshed. “A thief must certainly make restitution, but if he has nothing, he must be sold to pay for his theft.
22:4 “If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession–whether ox or donkey or sheep–he must pay back double.
22:5 “If a man grazes his livestock in a field or vineyard and lets them stray and they graze in another man’s field, he must make restitution from the best of his own field or vineyard.
22:6 “If a fire breaks out and spreads into thornbushes so that it burns shocks of grain or standing grain or the whole field, the one who started the fire must make restitution.
22:7 “If a man gives his neighbor silver or goods for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house, the thief, if he is caught, must pay back double.
22:8 But if the thief is not found, the owner of the house must appear before the judges to determine whether he has laid his hands on the other man’s property.
22:9 In all cases of illegal possession of an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any other lost property about which somebody says, ‘This is mine,’ both parties are to bring their cases before the judges. The one whom the judges declare guilty must pay back double to his neighbor.
22:10 “If a man gives a donkey, an ox, a sheep or any other animal to his neighbor for safekeeping and it dies or is injured or is taken away while no one is looking,
22:11 the issue between them will be settled by the taking of an oath before the LORD that the neighbor did not lay hands on the other person’s property. The owner is to accept this, and no restitution is required.
22:12 But if the animal was stolen from the neighbor, he must make restitution to the owner.
22:13 If it was torn to pieces by a wild animal, he shall bring in the remains as evidence and he will not be required to pay for the torn animal.
22:14 “If a man borrows an animal from his neighbor and it is injured or dies while the owner is not present, he must make restitution.
22:15 But if the owner is with the animal, the borrower will not have to pay. If the animal was hired, the money paid for the hire covers the loss.
22:16 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife.
22:17 If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins.
22:18 “Do not allow a sorceress to live.
22:19 “Anyone who has sexual relations with an animal must be put to death.
22:20 “Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD must be destroyed.
22:21 “Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in Egypt.
22:22 “Do not take advantage of a widow or an orphan.
22:23 If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry.
22:24 My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless.
22:25 “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest.
22:26 If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it to him by sunset,
22:27 because his cloak is the only covering he has for his body. What else will he sleep in? When he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.
22:28 “Do not blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people.
22:29 “Do not hold back offerings from your granaries or your vats.”You must give me the firstborn of your sons.
22:30 Do the same with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but give them to me on the eighth day.
22:31 “You are to be my holy people. So do not eat the meat of an animal torn by wild beasts; throw it to the dogs.

22:3 If the sun has risen upon him, there shall be bloodguiltiness for him ? the thief shall indeed make restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
22:4 If what he has stolen is actually found alive in his possession, whether an ox or a donkey or a sheep, he shall restore double.
22:5 If a man lets a field or vineyard be grazed, that is, he lets his animal loose, and it grazes in another man s field; from the best of his own field and from the best of his own vineyard he shall make restitution.
22:6 If fire breaks out and catches in thorns so that the stacked grain or the standing grain or what is growing in the field is consumed, he who started the fire shall surely make restitution.
22:7 If a man gives to his neighbor silver or goods to keep, and it is stolen out of the man s house, if the thief is found, he shall restore double.
22:8 If the thief is not found, then the owner of the house shall come near to God to determine whether or not he laid his hand on his neighbor s goods.
22:9 For every case of transgression, whether concerning an ox, concerning a donkey, concerning a sheep, concerning clothing, or concerning any lost item about which one says, This is it, the case of both parties shall come before God; he whom God declares guilty shall restore double to his neighbor.
22:10 If a man gives to his neighbor a donkey or an ox or a sheep or any animal to keep, and it dies or is injured or driven away, with no man seeing it;
22:11 The oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, that he has not laid his hand on his neighbor s goods; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.
22:12 But if it was certainly stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner.
22:13 If it was torn in pieces, let him bring it as evidence; he shall not make restitution for that which was torn.
22:14 And if a man borrows anything from his neighbor, and it is injured or dies while its owner is not with it, he shall make full restitution.
22:15 If its owner was with it, he shall not make restitution; if it was hired, only the hiring fee is due.
22:16 And if a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to become his wife.
22:17 If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay silver according to the dowry of virgins.
22:18 You shall not allow a sorceress to live.
22:19 Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death.
22:20 He who sacrifices to any god, except to Jehovah only, shall be devoted to destruction.
22:21 And you shall not wrong a sojourner, nor shall you oppress him; for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
22:22 You shall not afflict any widow or orphan.
22:23 If you afflict them at all and if they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry;
22:24 And My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children orphans.
22:25 If you lend silver to My people, to the poor among you, you shall not be to him as a creditor; you shall not charge him interest.
22:26 If you ever take your neighbor s garment as a pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down.
22:27 For that is his only covering; it is his garment for his skin. On what shall he lie down? And when he cries to Me I will hear, for I am gracious.
22:28 You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
22:29 You shall not delay to offer the fullness of your harvest and of the outflow of your presses. The firstborn of your sons you shall give to Me.
22:30 You shall do the same with your oxen and with your sheep. Seven days it shall be with its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to Me.
22:31 And you shall be holy men to Me. And you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by beasts in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs.
