OTNT

Lk 16

16:1 Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.

16:2 So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’

16:3 “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg–

16:4 I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’

16:5 “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’

16:6 “‘Eight hundred gallons of olive oil,’ he replied. “The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred.’

16:7 “Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?’ “‘A thousand bushels of wheat,’ he replied. “He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’

16:8 “The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.

16:9 I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.

16:10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

16:11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

16:12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?

16:13 “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

16:14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.

16:15 He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight.

16:16 “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

16:17 It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.

16:18 “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

16:19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.

16:20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores

16:21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

16:22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.

16:23 In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

16:24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

16:25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

16:26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

16:27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father’s house,

16:28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

16:29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

16:30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

16:31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

16:1 And He said also to the disciples, There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and this one was accused to him of squandering his possessions.

16:2 And he called him and said to him, What is this I hear concerning you? Render the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.

16:3 And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, because my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg.

16:4 I know what I will do so that when I am removed from the stewardship they may receive me into their own houses.

16:5 And when he had called to him each one of his master s debtors, he said to the first, How much do you owe my master?

16:6 And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, Take your bill and sit down quickly and write fifty.

16:7 Then to another he said, And you, how much do you owe? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. He said to him, Take your bill and write eighty.

16:8 And the master praised the unrighteous steward because he had acted prudently; for the sons of this age are more prudent in their dealings with their own generation than the sons of light.

16:9 And I say to you, Make friends for yourselves by means of the mammon of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.

16:10 He who is faithful in the least is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in the least is unrighteous also in much.

16:11 If therefore you have not become faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you what is true?

16:12 And if you have not become faithful in that which belongs to another, who will give to you that which is your own?

16:13 No household servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

16:14 And the Pharisees, being lovers of money, heard all these things and were sneering at Him.

16:15 And He said to them, You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

16:16 The law and the prophets were until John; from that time the kingdom of God is proclaimed as the gospel, and everyone forces his way into it.

16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one serif of the law to fail.

16:18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.

16:19 Now there was a certain rich man, and he clothed himself in purple and fine linen, making merry every day in splendor.

16:20 And a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores

16:21 And longing to be satisfied with the things falling from the rich man s table; moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

16:22 And the beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels into Abraham s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.

16:23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham from afar and Lazarus in his bosom.

16:24 And he called out and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this flame.

16:25 But Abraham said, Child, remember that in your lifetime you fully received your good things, and Lazarus likewise bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.

16:26 And besides all these things, between us and you a great chasm is fixed, so that those wanting to pass from here to you cannot, neither from there to us may any cross over.

16:27 And he said, Then I ask you, Father, to send him to the house of my father ?

16:28 For I have five brothers ? so that he may solemnly testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.

16:29 But Abraham said, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

16:30 But he said, No, Father Abraham; but if someone risen from the dead would go to them, they will repent.

16:31 But he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.
