10:1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
10:2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
10:3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
10:4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
10:5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
10:6 If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.
10:7 Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
10:8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you.
10:9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’
10:10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,
10:11 ‘Even the dust of your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.’
10:12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
10:13 “Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
10:14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
10:15 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths.
10:16 “He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
10:17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
10:18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
10:20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
10:21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
10:22 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
10:23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
10:24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
10:25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
10:26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
10:27 He answered: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
10:28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
10:29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
10:30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
10:31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
10:32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
10:33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
10:34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.
10:35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
10:36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
10:37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
10:38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
10:39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
10:40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
10:41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
10:42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
10:1 Now after these things, the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to come.
10:2 And He said to them, The harvest is great, but the workers few; therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest that He would thrust out workers into His harvest.
10:3 Go; behold, I send you as lambs in the midst of wolves.
10:4 Do not carry a purse, nor a bag, nor sandals; and greet no one on the way.
10:5 And into whatever house you enter, first say, Peace to this house.
10:6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon it; but if not, it shall return upon you.
10:7 And in that house remain, eating and drinking the things from them, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move from house to house.
10:8 And into whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you;
10:9 And heal the sick who are in it and say to them, The kingdom of God has drawn near to you.
10:10 But into whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,
10:11 Even the dust from your city which clings to our feet, we wipe off against you; yet know this, that the kingdom of God has drawn near.
10:12 I say to you that it will be more tolerable for Sodom in that day than for that city.
10:13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the works of power which took place in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
10:14 Yet it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
10:15 And you, Capernaum, who have been exalted to heaven, to Hades you will be brought down.
10:16 He who hears you hears Me, and he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.
10:17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.
10:18 And He said to them, I was watching Satan fall like lightning out of heaven.
10:19 Behold, I have given you the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
10:20 However do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in the heavens.
10:21 In that hour He exulted in the Holy Spirit and said, I extol You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for thus it has been well pleasing in Your sight.
10:22 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and him to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
10:23 And turning to the disciples, He said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see.
10:24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings have wanted to perceive the things that you see, and have not perceived them, and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them.
10:25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?
10:26 And He said to him, What is written in the law? How do you read it?
10:27 And he answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole strength and with your whole mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
10:28 And He said to him, You have answered correctly; do this, and you shall have life.
10:29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
10:30 Jesus, taking up the question, said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who having both stripped him and beaten him, went away, leaving him half dead.
10:31 And by coincidence a certain priest was going down on that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
10:32 And likewise also a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the opposite side.
10:33 But a certain Samaritan, who was journeying, came upon him; and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion;
10:34 And he came to him and bound up his wounds and poured oil and wine on them. And placing him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him.
10:35 And on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, Take care of him; and whatever you spend in addition to this, when I return, I will repay you.
10:36 Which of these three, does it seem to you, has become a neighbor to him who fell into the hands of the robbers?
10:37 And he said, The one who showed mercy to him. And Jesus said to him, Go, and you do likewise.
10:38 Now as they went, He entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received Him into her home.
10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord s feet and was listening to His word.
10:40 But Martha was being drawn about with much serving, and she came up to Him and said, Lord, does it not matter to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to do her part with me.
10:41 But the Lord answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;
10:42 But there is need of one thing, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
