Jn 13

13:1 It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.

13:2 The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus.

13:3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;

13:4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.

13:5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

13:6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

13:7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

13:8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”

13:9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”

13:10 Jesus answered, “A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”

13:11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

13:12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.

13:13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.

13:14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

13:15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

13:16 I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.

13:17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

13:18 “I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: ‘He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me.’

13:19 “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He.

13:20 I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.”

13:21 After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.”

13:22 His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.

13:23 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.

13:24 Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.”

13:25 Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”

13:26 Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.

13:27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. “What you are about to do, do quickly,” Jesus told him,

13:28 but no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him.

13:29 Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the Feast, or to give something to the poor.

13:30 As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.

13:31 When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him.

13:32 If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.

13:33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.

13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

13:35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

13:36 Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”

13:37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

13:38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!

13:1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come for Him to depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the uttermost.

13:2 And while supper was taking place, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, that he should betray Him,

13:3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all into His hands and that He had come forth from God and was going to God,

13:4 Rose from supper and laid aside His outer garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself;

13:5 Then He poured water into the basin and began to wash the disciples feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

13:6 He came then to Simon Peter. Peter said to Him, Lord, do You wash my feet?

13:7 Jesus answered and said to him, What I am doing you do not know now, but you will know after these things.

13:8 Peter said to Him, You shall by no means wash my feet forever. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.

13:9 Simon Peter said to Him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

13:10 Jesus said to him, He who is bathed has no need except to wash his feet, but is wholly clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.

13:11 For He knew the one betraying Him; for this reason He said, Not all of you are clean.

13:12 Then when He had washed their feet and taken His outer garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, Do you know what I have done to you?

13:13 You call Me the Teacher and the Lord, and you say rightly, for I am.

13:14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another s feet.

13:15 For I have given you an example so that you also may do even as I have done to you.

13:16 Truly, truly, I say to you, A slave is not greater than his master, nor one who is sent greater than the one who sends him.

13:17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

13:18 I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.

13:19 From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe that I am.

13:20 Truly, truly, I say to you, He who receives whomever I shall send receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.

13:21 When Jesus had said these things, He became troubled in His spirit, and He testified and said, Truly, truly, I say to you that one of you will betray Me.

13:22 The disciples looked at one another, perplexed over whom He was speaking about.

13:23 One of His disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining on Jesus bosom.

13:24 Simon Peter therefore nodded to him to inquire who it might be about whom He was speaking.

13:25 Then he, while reclining thus on Jesus breast, said to Him, Lord, who is it?

13:26 Jesus answered, It is he for whom I will dip the morsel and to whom I will give it. And dipping the morsel, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

13:27 And at that moment, after the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus therefore said to him, What you do, do quickly.

13:28 But none of those reclining at table knew why He said this to him.

13:29 For some supposed, since Judas held the purse, that Jesus was saying to him, Buy the things that we have need of for the feast, or that he should give something to the poor.

13:30 Therefore having taken the morsel, he went out immediately; and it was night.

13:31 Then when he went out, Jesus said, Now has the Son of Man been glorified, and God has been glorified in Him.

13:32 If God has been glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and He will glorify Him immediately.

13:33 Little children, I am still with you a little while; you will seek Me, and even as I said to the Jews, Where I am going, you cannot come, now I say to you also.

13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

13:35 By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

13:36 Simon Peter said to Him, Lord, where are You going? Jesus answered him, Where I go you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later.

13:37 Peter said to Him, Lord, why can t I follow You now? I will lay down my life for You.

13:38 Jesus answered, Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, A rooster shall by no means crow until you deny Me three times.
