Exo 28

28:1 “Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests.

28:2 Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron, to give him dignity and honor.

28:3 Tell all the skilled men to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest.

28:4 These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests.

28:5 Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.

28:6 “Make the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen–the work of a skilled craftsman.

28:7 It is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners, so it can be fastened.

28:8 Its skillfully woven waistband is to be like it–of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen.

28:9 “Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel

28:10 in the order of their birth–six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other.

28:11 Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings

28:12 and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the LORD.

28:13 Make gold filigree settings

28:14 and two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains to the settings.

28:15 “Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions–the work of a skilled craftsman. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen.

28:16 It is to be square–a span long and a span wide–and folded double.

28:17 Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there shall be a ruby, a topaz and a beryl;

28:18 in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and an emerald;

28:19 in the third row a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst;

28:20 in the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper. Mount them in gold filigree settings.

28:21 There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.

28:22 “For the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope.

28:23 Make two gold rings for it and fasten them to two corners of the breastpiece.

28:24 Fasten the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece,

28:25 and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front.

28:26 Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod.

28:27 Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod.

28:28 The rings of the breastpiece are to be tied to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband, so that the breastpiece will not swing out from the ephod.

28:29 “Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the LORD.

28:30 Also put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastpiece, so they may be over Aaron’s heart whenever he enters the presence of the LORD. Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the LORD.

28:31 “Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth,

28:32 with an opening for the head in its center. There shall be a woven edge like a collar around this opening, so that it will not tear.

28:33 Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.

28:34 The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe.

28:35 Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the LORD and when he comes out, so that he will not die.

28:36 “Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD.

28:37 Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban.

28:38 It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron’s forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the LORD.

28:39 “Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer.

28:40 Make tunics, sashes and headbands for Aaron’s sons, to give them dignity and honor.

28:41 After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.

28:42 “Make linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh.

28:43 Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die. “This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.

28:1 And bring near to yourself Aaron your brother and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may serve Me as a priest ? Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron s sons.

28:2 And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.

28:3 And you shall speak to all who are wise in heart, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron s garments to sanctify him, that he may serve Me as a priest.

28:4 And these are the garments which they shall make: a breastplate and an ephod and a robe and a tunic of checkered work, a turban and a girding sash. So they shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and for his sons that he may serve Me as a priest.

28:5 They therefore shall take the gold and the blue and the purple and the scarlet strands and the fine linen,

28:6 And they shall make the ephod of gold thread, of blue and purple and scarlet strands, and fine twined linen, the work of a skillful workman.

28:7 It shall have two shoulder pieces joined to its two edges, so that it may be joined together.

28:8 And the skillfully woven band, which is on it for its fastening, shall be like it in workmanship, of one piece with it; of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet strands and fine twined linen.

28:9 And you shall take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel,

28:10 Six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the remaining six on the other stone, according to their birth.

28:11 With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, you shall engrave the two stones, according to the names of the sons of Israel; you shall make them enclosed in settings of gold.

28:12 And you shall put the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before Jehovah on his two shoulders for a memorial.

28:13 And you shall make settings of gold,

28:14 And two chains of pure gold; you shall make them twisted, a corded work, and you shall put the chains of cords on the settings.

28:15 And you shall make a breastplate of judgment, the work of a skillful workman; like the work of the ephod you shall make it; of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet strands, and of fine twined linen you shall make it.

28:16 It shall be square and doubled; a span its length and a span its width.

28:17 And you shall enclose in it enclosures of stones, four rows of stones: the first row shall be a row of a sardius, a topaz, and an emerald;

28:18 And the second row, a carbuncle, a sapphire, and a diamond;

28:19 And the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;

28:20 And the fourth row, a chrysolite, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their enclosures.

28:21 And the stones shall be according to the names of the sons of Israel, twelve, according to their names; they shall be like the engravings of a signet, each according to its name, for the twelve tribes.

28:22 And you shall make on the breastplate twisted chains, a corded work of pure gold.

28:23 And you shall make on the breastplate two rings of gold and shall put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.

28:24 And you shall put the two cords of gold in the two rings at the ends of the breastplate.

28:25 And you shall put the two other ends of the two cords on the two settings, and put them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front of it.

28:26 And you shall make two rings of gold, and you shall put them upon the two ends of the breastplate upon its edge, which is toward the ephod on the inside.

28:27 And you shall make two rings of gold and shall put them on the bottom of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod on the front of it, close to the place where it is joined, above the skillfully woven band of the ephod.

28:28 And they shall bind the breastplate by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a cord of blue strands, that it may be upon the skillfully woven band of the ephod and that the breastplate may not come loose from the ephod.

28:29 So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastplate of judgment on his heart when he goes into the sanctuary, for a memorial before Jehovah continually.

28:30 And you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be on Aaron s heart when he goes in before Jehovah, and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel on his heart before Jehovah continually.

28:31 And you shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue strands.

28:32 And there shall be an opening for the head in its center; around its opening there shall be a binding edge of woven work, like the opening of a coat of mail, so that it will not be torn.

28:33 And you shall make on its hem pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet strands, all around its hem, and bells of gold between them all around:

28:34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, on the hem of the robe all around.

28:35 And it shall be upon Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the sanctuary before Jehovah and when he comes out, so that he may not die.

28:36 And you shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave upon it, like the engravings of a signet: HOLINESS TO JEHOVAH.

28:37 And you shall put it on a cord of blue strands, and it shall be on the turban; it shall be at the front of the turban.

28:38 And it shall be upon Aaron s forehead, and Aaron shall bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel sanctify for all their holy gifts; and it shall always be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before Jehovah.

28:39 And you shall weave the tunic of fine linen, and you shall make a turban of fine linen, and you shall make a girding sash, the work of an embroiderer.

28:40 And for Aaron s sons you shall make tunics, and you shall make for them girding sashes, and you shall make for them high hats, for glory and for beauty.

28:41 And you shall put them upon Aaron your brother and upon his sons with him, and you shall anoint them and consecrate them and sanctify them, that they may serve Me as priests.

28:42 And you shall make them linen trousers to cover their naked flesh; they shall reach from the loins even to the thighs;

28:43 And they shall be upon Aaron and upon his sons when they go into the Tent of Meeting or when they come near to the altar to minister in the sanctuary, that they may not bear iniquity and die. It shall be a perpetual statute for him and for his seed after him.
