2:1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2:2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
2:3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
2:5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.
2:6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
2:7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans?
2:8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language?
2:9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
2:10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome
2:11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs–we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”
2:12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
2:13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
2:14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
2:15 These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!
2:16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
2:17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
2:18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
2:19 I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
2:20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
2:21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
2:22 “Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.
2:23 This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
2:24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
2:25 David said about him: “‘I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
2:26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope,
2:27 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
2:28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’
2:29 “Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.
2:30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.
2:31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.
2:32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
2:33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
2:34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
2:35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” ‘
2:36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
2:37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
2:39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off–for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
2:40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
2:41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
2:43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.
2:44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.
2:45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
2:46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
2:47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

2:6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together and was confounded because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect.
2:7 And they were amazed and marveled, saying, Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
2:8 And how is it that we each hear them in our own dialect in which we were born?
2:9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, both in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,
2:10 Both in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and the sojourning of Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
2:11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the magnificent works of God?
2:12 And they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, What does this mean?
2:13 But others jeered and said, They are full of new wine!
2:14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke forth to them: Men of Judea, and all who are dwelling in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.
2:15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day;
2:16 But this is what is spoken through the prophet Joel:
2:17 And it shall be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream things in dreams;
2:18 And indeed upon My slaves, both men and women, I will pour out of My Spirit in those days, and they shall prophesy.
2:19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord comes.
2:21 And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
2:22 Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man shown by God to you to be approved by works of power and wonders and signs, which God did through Him in your midst, even as you yourselves know ?
2:23 This man, delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you, through the hand of lawless men, nailed to a cross and killed;
2:24 Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pangs of death, since it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
2:25 For David says regarding Him, I saw the Lord continually before me, because He is on my right hand, that I may not be shaken.
2:26 Therefore my heart was made glad and my tongue exulted; moreover, also my flesh will rest in hope,
2:27 Because You will not abandon my soul to Hades, nor will You permit Your Holy One to see corruption.
2:28 You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.
2:29 Men, brothers, I can say to you plainly concerning the patriarch David that he both deceased and was buried, and his tomb is among us until this day.
2:30 Therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him to seat One from the fruit of his loins upon his throne,
2:31 He, seeing this beforehand, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was He abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.
2:32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we all are witnesses.
2:33 Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He has poured out this which you both see and hear.
2:34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand
2:35 Until I set Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.
2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made Him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you have crucified.
2:37 And when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, What should we do, brothers?
2:38 And Peter said to them, Repent and each one of you be baptized upon the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
2:39 For to you is the promise and to your children, and to all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God calls to Himself.
2:40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this crooked generation.
2:41 Those then who received his word were baptized, and there were added on that day about three thousand souls.
2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the teaching and the fellowship of the apostles, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.
2:43 And fear was upon every soul; and many wonders and signs took place through the apostles.
2:44 And all those who believed were together and had all things common;
2:45 And they sold their properties and possessions and divided them to all, as anyone had need.
2:46 And day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they partook of their food with exultation and simplicity of heart,
2:47 Praising God and having grace with all the people. And the Lord added together day by day those who were being saved.
