Mt 10


10:1 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

10:2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John;

10:3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;

10:4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.

10:6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.

10:7 As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’

10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

10:9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts;

10:10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.

10:11 “Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave.

10:12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting.

10:13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you.

10:14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.

10:15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

10:16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

10:17 “Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues.

10:18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

10:19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say,

10:20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

10:21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.

10:22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

10:23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

10:24 “A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.

10:25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!

10:26 “So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.

10:27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.

10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.

10:30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

10:31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

10:32 “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.

10:33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

10:34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

10:35 For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law–

10:36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’

10:37 “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

10:38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

10:39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

10:40 “He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me.

10:41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.

10:42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”

10:3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;

10:4 Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.

10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, charging them,

10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

10:7 And as you go, proclaim, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.

10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

10:9 Do not acquire for yourselves gold nor silver nor copper for your belts;

10:10 No bag for the journey nor two tunics nor sandals nor a staff; for the worker is worthy of his food.

10:11 And into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy; and there remain until you depart.

10:12 And as you enter into the house, greet it.

10:13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

10:14 And whoever does not receive you nor hear your words, as you go out of that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

10:15 Truly I say to you, It will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be therefore prudent as serpents and guileless as doves.

10:17 And beware of men, for they will deliver you up to sanhedrins, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.

10:18 And you will also be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.

10:19 But when they deliver you up, do not be anxious about how or what you should speak, for it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;

10:20 For you are not the ones speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is the One speaking in you.

10:21 And brother will deliver up brother to death, and father his child; and children will rise up against their parents and put them to death.

10:22 And you will be hated by all because of My name. But he who has endured to the end, this one shall be saved.

10:23 And when they persecute you in this city, flee into another. For truly I say to you, You shall by no means finish the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.

10:24 A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above his master.

10:25 It is sufficient for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the Master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of His household!

10:26 Therefore do not fear them; for there is nothing covered which will not be revealed, and hidden which will not be made known.

10:27 What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion? And not one of them will fall to the earth apart from your Father.

10:30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

10:31 Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.

10:32 Everyone therefore who will confess in Me before men, I also will confess in him before My Father who is in the heavens;

10:33 But whoever will deny Me before men, I also will deny him before My Father who is in the heavens.

10:34 Do not think that I have come to bring peace on the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

10:35 For I have come to set men at variance: a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

10:36 And a man s enemies will be those of his household.

10:37 He who loves father or mother above Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter above Me is not worthy of Me;

10:38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

10:39 He who finds his soul-life shall lose it, and he who loses his soul-life for My sake shall find it.

10:40 He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who has sent Me.

10:41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet s reward, and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man s reward.

10:42 And whoever gives to one of these little ones only a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.
