21:1 Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel
21:2 at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”
21:3 So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
21:4 The first lot came out for the Kohathites, clan by clan. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
21:5 The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.
21:6 The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
21:7 The descendants of Merari, clan by clan, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
21:8 So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
21:9 From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name
21:10 (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
21:11 They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)
21:12 But the fields and villages around the city they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.
21:13 So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Libnah,
21:14 Jattir, Eshtemoa,
21:15 Holon, Debir,
21:16 Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands–nine towns from these two tribes.
21:17 And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba,
21:18 Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands–four towns.
21:19 All the towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
21:20 The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:
21:21 In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,
21:22 Kibzaim and Beth Horon, together with their pasturelands–four towns.
21:23 Also from the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
21:24 Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands–four towns.
21:25 From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands–two towns.
21:26 All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
21:27 The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshtarah, together with their pasturelands–two towns;
21:28 from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion, Daberath,
21:29 Jarmuth and En Gannim, together with their pasturelands–four towns;
21:30 from the tribe of Asher, Mishal, Abdon,
21:31 Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasturelands–four towns;
21:32 from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands–three towns.
21:33 All the towns of the Gershonite clans were thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
21:34 The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah,
21:35 Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands–four towns;
21:36 from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz,
21:37 Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands–four towns;
21:38 from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,
21:39 Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasturelands–four towns in all.
21:40 All the towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, were twelve.
21:41 The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.
21:42 Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
21:43 So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their forefathers, and they took possession of it and settled there.
21:44 The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their forefathers. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD handed all their enemies over to them.
21:45 Not one of all the LORD’S good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
21:1 Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the children of Israel,
21:2 And they spoke to them in Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, Jehovah commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in with their pasture lands for our cattle.
21:3 So the children of Israel gave the Levites, according to the commandment of Jehovah, these cities with their pasture lands out of their inheritance:
21:4 And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites. And to the children of Aaron the priest who were of the Levites there went by lot thirteen cities out of the tribe of Judah and out of the tribe of the Simeonites and out of the tribe of Benjamin.
21:5 And to the rest of the children of Kohath there went by lot ten cities out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim and out of the tribe of Dan and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh.
21:6 And to the children of Gershon there went by lot thirteen cities out of the families of the tribe of Issachar and out of the tribe of Asher and out of the tribe of Naphtali and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
21:7 To the children of Merari according to their families there went twelve cities out of the tribe of Reuben and out of the tribe of Gad and out of the tribe of Zebulun.
21:8 So the children of Israel gave by lot to the Levites these cities with their pasture lands, as Jehovah had commanded through Moses.
21:9 And out of the tribe of the children of Judah and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon they gave these cities, which are here mentioned by name;
21:10 And they went to the children of Aaron, one of the families of the Kohathites, of the children of Levi; for the first lot was theirs.
21:11 And they gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba was the father of Anak), which is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with its pasture lands around it.
21:12 But the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.
21:13 And to the children of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron with its pasture lands, the city of refuge for the manslayer; and Libnah with its pasture lands

21:17 And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,
21:18 Anathoth with its pasture lands, and Almon with its pasture lands: four cities.
21:19 All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their pasture lands.
21:20 And as for the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites who remained of the children of Kohath, the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim were given.
21:21 And they gave them Shechem with its pasture lands in the hill country of Ephraim, the city of refuge for the manslayer; and Gezer with its pasture lands

21:27 And to the children of Gershon, one of the families of the Levites, they gave, out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasture lands, the city of refuge for the manslayer; and Be-eshterah with its pasture lands: two cities.
21:28 And out of the tribe of Issachar: Kishion with its pasture lands, Daberath with its pasture lands,
21:29 Jarmuth with its pasture lands, En-gannim with its pasture lands: four cities.
21:30 And out of the tribe of Asher: Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,
21:31 Helkath with its pasture lands, and Rehob with its pasture lands: four cities.
21:32 And out of the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with its pasture lands, the city of refuge for the manslayer; and Hammoth-dor with its pasture lands and Kartan with its pasture lands: three cities.
21:33 All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities, with their pasture lands.
21:34 And to the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, they gave Jokneam with its pasture lands and Kartah with its pasture lands,
21:35 Dimnah with its pasture lands, Nahalal with its pasture lands: four cities.
21:36 And out of the tribe of Reuben: Bezer with its pasture lands and Jahaz with its pasture lands,
21:37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands and Mephaath with its pasture lands: four cities.
21:38 And out of the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead with its pasture lands, the city of refuge for the manslayer; and Mahanaim with its pasture lands,
21:39 Heshbon with its pasture lands, Jazer with its pasture lands: four cities in all.
21:40 These were all the cities for the children of Merari according to their families, which remained of the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities.
21:41 All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the children of Israel were forty-eight cities with their pasture lands.
21:42 Each of these cities had its pasture lands around it; so it was with all these cities.
21:43 So Jehovah gave Israel all the land that He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they possessed it and dwelt in it.
21:44 And Jehovah gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And no one among all their enemies could stand before them; Jehovah delivered all their enemies into their hand.
21:45 Not a word failed of all the good things that Jehovah had spoken to the house of Israel; all came to pass.
